The following quote struck my funny bone, and especially at this time of the year, I figured it was apropos:
“I read about the evils of drinking, so I gave up reading.”
Unfortunately, I can’t remember who said this, but if any of you recognize this I’d be interested in being reminded.
Of course, the quote is not autobiographical at all, since I’m far more addicted to reading than I am to drinking! It’s a good thing an additiction to books is socially acceptable.
I modified this a bit since my wife and I are trying to get back into healthy eating. I called her at work this afternoon and told her:
“I was reading about the evils of gluttony, so I gave up reading.”
I guess that you would have had to be there, but her response was good.

Ha! Giving it applicable reality makes it even funnier! Elisa thought it was mildly funny. Her primary comment was, “Yeah, you sure are addicted to books.” or something along those lines.
I took it with the grain of salt that I’m sure she intended and decided that she was conveying to me how grateful she is that I’m not addicted to drink. [grin]
i have so many funny bones in myself that is why i would love to be a comedian ,-*
