Children come with a built-in, living instruction manual called parents. Calling God “Abba, Father” means accepting things like, “Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.” (Proverbs 4:1-2 ESV)
Nate, For the past several months I have been involved in a Bible Study of Proverbs. Unfortunately, this is one book pastors seem to ignore, because they think it is difficult to preach from. My conclusion is that it would be best to encourage parents (especially fathers) to teach their children from Proverbs on a regular basis. The best resource I have found with a verse by verse study “Proverbs” by John A. Kitchen. … Fathers diligently teaching their children, from one generation to another … Your children are blessed to have a father who cares enough to teach them well.
Blessings on Yom Terah! Joy Ensign
Thank you, Joy! I apologize that I did not respond to this promptly. I have also enjoyed the commentary on Proverbs by Ryan O’Dowd.
